You can be the best writer onllne, but if your headline isn’t catchy enough to grab the attention of readers, your articles will be like hundreds and thousands of others “littering” the internet. We don’t have to tell you what that means for anyone who relies on content marketing to make a living.

Fortunately, there are 5 things you can do to create irresistable headlines that will turn lukewarm browsers into enthusiastic readers.

1. Make Your Headline Helpful – According to Online Earning King, people search the Internet for three main reasons: to find answers, to look for solutions, and to seek help. Does your headline fall under one of those categories? If not, you may not get the clicks you’re hoping for.

There’s a reason “How-To” and “The Best Way To” headlines are so popular…they promise answers or solutions to the questions people are seeking help for. A good example of a helpful headline that screams “Click Me!” is: How to Cure Acne Overnight.

Part of the reason these types of headlines get results is because they appeal to people on a very personal level.The more relatable you can make your headlines, the more you’ll increase your click rate. Just make sure you deliver the solution your headline is offering. 2. Your Headline Should Be Specific And Benefit-Focused – People only click on headlines if they think they’re going to get something out of it, whether it’s a valuble piece of advice, an expert tip, or a previously unknown bit of information.

5. Your Headline Should Set You Apart From the Competition – Creating clickable headlines is good. But creating headlines that stand out from the competition is even better. lf your headlines are blending in with those of your competition, they’re not doing their job. Take the time to research what readers are searching for using the same topic. Then find out how your competitors are phrasing their headlines and create a better one.

You could also use a customer testimonial as your title, like the one Copyblogger suggests: “Quite simply, the finest design software ever released.” Another way to make your headlines stand out from the competition is to “add a little something extra to your headline that seems out of place, yet rings true”, says Copyblogger.

Here’s an excellent example: “Frustrated bartender develops incredible device to clean and disinfect your entire home…” While people tend to distrust traditional sales copy, ” the specificity or quirkiness” of this headline adds an oddly truthful aura that resonates with readers.
